Warehouse Racking Relocation & Compliance Works in Reading

GB Warehouse Solutions has recently been awarded a small warehouse project for a large technology‑driven customer operating within the travel and logistics sector, based in Reading.

The scope of works included the dismantling and relocation of existing pallet racking within an operational warehouse. Our experienced installation team carried out the project efficiently and safely, ensuring minimal disruption to the customer’s ongoing operations while maintaining strict adherence to industry standards.

As part of our one‑stop‑shop service for the warehouse sector, GB Warehouse Solutions was also instructed to complete the associated warehouse signage works. These updates ensure clear identification, improved safety awareness and continued operational compliance throughout the facility.

Pallet racking is classified as work equipment under PUWER 1998, which means inspecting and maintaining it is a legal obligation — not an optional extra. HSG76, the HSE’s own warehousing guidance, requires at least annual expert inspections by a SARI-qualified inspector, supported by monthly in-house checks. Failing to comply leaves your business exposed to HSE enforcement action, prohibition notices, and the very real risk of a serious workplace incident.

The most common issues we find — impact-damaged uprights, missing safety locks, inadequate racking flue clearances, and corrosion in cold-store environments — are entirely fixable when caught early. A professional SEMA inspection gives you a clear, prioritised action plan so you always know exactly what needs doing and when, with no guesswork and no unnecessary disruption to your operations.

The cost comparison speaks for itself. A routine annual inspection is a modest, predictable investment. Remedial works on an installation left unchecked for years can run to tens of thousands of pounds — before you even factor in the human cost of an accident or the financial impact of an HSE visit. Get inspected, stay compliant, and give your team the safe working environment they deserve.

To conclude the project, a full SEMA racking inspection was undertaken by a qualified SARI inspector. This inspection verified that the relocated racking met all current safety and performance requirements, providing the customer with confidence that their warehouse environment is fully compliant and fit for purpose.
