Project Overview
A prestigious printing company vacating its Sheffield warehouse instructed GB Warehouse Solutions to safely dismantle all of its installed pallet racking and clear the site. The brief was to strip everything out, remove it completely, and leave the building empty and ready for handover, with no loose ends for the client to deal with on the way out.
The Vacating Challenge
Two things made this more than a simple strip-out.
First, the deadline was fixed. When a business is leaving a premises, the handback date doesn’t move. Every day the building isn’t clear risks delays, extra costs and awkward conversations with the landlord, so the racking had to be dismantled and removed to a firm programme.
Second, this was a large amount of structure to take down in a controlled way. Frames, beams and timber decking all needed to be dismantled in the right sequence, sorted and secured. Done carelessly, this kind of work leaves damaged components, a cluttered site and safety risks for the crew.

The Specialist Solution
GB Warehouse Solutions mobilised a trained dismantling crew and worked methodically through the installation, taking the racking down in a safe, planned order.
As each bay came apart, components were sorted by type and prepared for transport:
- Orange box beams were stacked and strapped together
- Blue upright frames were bundled and secured
- Timber decking was palletised into neat, stable stacks
Our in-house logistics team then loaded and removed everything. One contractor handled the whole job end to end: dismantle, sort, strap, load and clear.

Safety & Efficiency
The work was carried out under a planned method of working, with the crew in full PPE and a trained operative supervising throughout. Components were banded and stacked before being moved, keeping handling and transport controlled from start to finish.
Because dismantling and removal were handled in-house, there were no gaps between trades and no third-party haulier to wait on. The client could concentrate on its own move rather than managing a clearance contractor.
The Result
The racking was dismantled, removed and off site, and the warehouse was handed back clear and ready for the next chapter.
Rather than being scrapped, the racking has come straight back into GB Warehouse Solutions’ stock, inspected and ready for reuse. It’s now available on our used pallet racking marketplace: blue upright frames, orange beams and timber decking. Buying used racking is the faster, more cost-effective and more sustainable way to fit out a warehouse, and it keeps quality steel and timber in service instead of in the skip.
