Project Overview
A shipping and freight company operating from a warehouse facility near Heathrow instructed GB Warehouse Solutions to dismantle a bank of installed pallet racking and clear it from site. The racking ran to full warehouse height across multiple bays. The objective was straightforward but time-critical: strip out the racking, remove it completely, and hand back clean, usable floor space — without interrupting a live logistics operation.
The Access Challenge
Two things made this more than a simple strip-out.
First, the site was live. A working freight operation can’t afford to tie up its floor during trading hours, so the job had to be done out of hours — on a Saturday — and completed in a single visit. No overruns, no going back for a second day.
Second, the racking stood at full height, with the top beam levels well beyond safe reach from the ground. Dismantling those levels by hand or off a ladder was neither safe nor realistic — the upper bays needed proper powered access to be taken down without risk to the crew or the structure.
The Specialist Solution
GB Warehouse Solutions mobilised a trained dismantling crew for the Saturday window. To reach the upper beam levels safely, the team worked from a mobile elevating work platform — a self-propelled scissor lift — dismantling the racking methodically from the top down.
As each bay came apart, the frames and beams were banded and strapped on site, bundled and secured ready for safe handling and transport. With the strip-out complete, our in-house logistics team loaded and removed the racking the same day. One contractor handled the whole job end to end: access, dismantle, strap, load and clear.
Safety & Efficiency
Every level was worked safely from the platform, with the crew in full PPE and a trained operative directing from ground level. Loads were banded before they were moved, keeping handling and transport controlled from start to finish.
Because both the dismantle and the removal were handled in-house, there were no coordination gaps between trades and no third-party haulier to wait on. The result was a tight, single-day job delivered with zero disruption to the client’s operation — and nothing left behind on Monday morning.
The Result
The racking was dismantled, removed and off site inside the Saturday window, with the floor space handed back clean and ready to use — no downtime, no overrun.
Rather than being scrapped, the racking came straight back into GB Warehouse Solutions’ Midlands stock, inspected and ready for reuse. It’s now listed on our used pallet racking marketplace: blue upright frames and orange beams, 6m frames and 2m beams, available from our Midlands unit.
