A commercial warehouse operator needed a full pallet racking system removed — fifteen bays across three runs, 6-metre frames— with the floor left completely clear. For a job this size, many contractors simply won’t show up. We did.
The Challenge
The racking reached the full internal height of the building, leaving almost zero clearance between the frames and the roof steelwork. Ladder access to upper levels was out. Overhead electrical cables and a powered shutter mechanism needed isolating before work could begin. Client staff and a reach truck were also operating on the same floor throughout the day.
How We Did It
Small projects like this often fall through the cracks — too small for large contractors, too specialised for a man-and-van. GBWS has built a cost model specifically designed to serve them. Rather than charging a standard day rate that would make a job like this uneconomical, we take the racking itself as part of the arrangement. The client gets a free clearance; we recover quality second-hand racking that gets dismantled, checked, and re-purposed — not scrapped. A lot of small opportunities are left untouched, leaving the client no choice but to dispose of the metal.
Two operatives on the job. Each bay was stripped fully to floor level in sequence, with all components — steel frames, beams, column guards, base plates, and timber decking — bundled and taken away by GBWS.
The Result
Fifteen bays out. One day. Zero disposal cost to the client.
The client got a free clearance and a clean floor. GBWS recovered a full set of quality second-hand racking ready for re-use. No scaffolding, no skip hire, no inflated crew costs — and critically, no client left unserved because the job “wasn’t big enough.”
